About the Artist

Nancy (Ostling) Starkman is an American artist. She paints nearly full-time, while designing books for existing clients doing business with her company, Star Print Brokers, Inc. Born in the Northern California Wine Country and residing for years in the East Bay of San Francisco, she is continuing oil painting as she has done so for many years.

When Nancy first walked into her aunt's professional art studio in Seattle, she fell in love oil painting. She was just in grade school. Even at the age of nine, she was hooked on becoming an artist! Her first oil painting was done at nine years old. As an adult, Nancy made her career in newspaper, including advertising, publishing, graphic design, as well as art direction. She also wrote the book, Book Design: Simple & Professional which is available on Amazon.

Nancy worked on commission selling her oil paintings when she was in her 20s, she seldom had time for painting as a single mom with two young children. When she resumed painting in the past year, a friend wanted to buy one of her animal paintings. Not only did she buy the painting, also commissioning Nancy to paint two more.

Now, her spacious studio is above the three-car garage. Mother of two and grandmother of seven, Nancy lives with her husband, Edward, and Charlotte, their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, in Bellevue Washington which is just 11 miles east of Seattle.
